It seems that although some of us have fallen in love with all those extra characters that have popped up in Sonic titles of late Sega are going back to basics with the latest 2D Sonic title announcing in their official blog that they have eliminated all other options in their search.

Today, we are about to break the trend that has continued on for many years. To the thousands of you out there asking for a game where Sonic is the only playable character – rejoice. As of today, your wish has been granted.
